Safeguarding Sunday 29 January 2023 In October 2021, Pope Francis invited Catholics throughout the world to engage in what he called a process of synodality. Most of us had never heard of the word ‘synodality’. Pope Francis described it as a way of gathering together to listen to each other and to God’s Word as we search to discover what God wants for his Church in the 21st century. This process of listening is based on the Pope’s conviction that the will of God for his people can be discerned by listening to what God’s Spirit is saying in our hearts. By engaging in this listening process, Pope Francis is encouraging us to become a Listening Church – a Church which engages in faith-filled listening among ourselves and with wider society.
This is particularly important in Safeguarding young people and adults at risk. As we emerge from the disruption to parish services caused by the pandemic, our Parish Safeguarding Committee will be listening and responding to the needs of young people and their group leaders. We all know that the isolation many young people and adults at risk experienced during the lockdowns has affected their mental health. By creating a safe and welcoming environment in the parish we want to ensure that they are listened to and supported. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in this vital work especially our youth leaders, teachers, parents , volunteers and members of our Parish Safeguarding Committee. There are copies of the St Teresa’s Parish Safeguarding Committee guidance leaflet available for Parishioners to read at the back of the Church.
Down and Connor Catholic Schools’ Support Service It is with great pleasure that I write to inform you that All Saints College, St Teresa’s Nursery School and St Mary’s Christian Brothers’ Grammar have each been awarded the Down and Connor Spirit of Catholic Education Award 2023.
Each was chosen for the award because of the tremendous dedication to promoting the ethos and values of Catholic education, and in particular for their work in the area of respect for the environment. All will be receiving this prestigious award at a special ceremony next week in St Mary’s University College. Please note that due to child safeguarding this award ceremony is not open to the general public.
