Passion (Palm) Sunday, Year A

Sunday Gospel Hearing the story of Christ’s Passion and Death brings the Church to the end of Lent. The time of prayer, fasting and charity ends with the celebration of the death and resurrection of the Lord. On Good Friday we hear Pilate’s question: What is truth? It is the question of a tired and cynical man who is in a position of trying to please those who are only interested in promoting their own set of laws, rules and regulations. It seems that the only person who is interested in real truth is Christ and his thirst for truth and justice brings him to the cross. True Christians are people who search after and promote truth and justice. There can’t be versions or interpretations of truth, it is found in the life of Christ and the example he has given to us. The action of our lives must be based on his life, we are to search for justice for all peoples, respect the rights of others who are created in the image and likeness of God. Many times are faith presents real and lasting challenges, the work of justice and peace will never be done. In this coming week we can pray for the courage to speak up for others who are deprived of basic human rights no matter what version of truth is challenged.

From Trocaire Uwamahoro, like any mother, wants nothing more than to provide the best of care and of opportunity for her family. For her, the rock symbolises the daily burden of knowing that everything depends on her and that if, for any reason, she cannot work, the whole family will suffer. We know the compassion of Jesus. We are the people of Jesus. Who, in the name of Jesus, will take away the stone that cuts this family off from the life that they should have?
