Today, on the Second Sunday of Advent, we lit the second candle on the Advent Wreath.

The second purple candle is called the Candle of Peace. Jesus is the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6)

The colour purple is used in the liturgy of Advent. This reminds us that the season is a journey of penance and sobriety. Purple foreshadows the sovereignty and the royalty of Christ. Purple was a kingly colour.
